- it takes strength to recognize versions of yourself that are flawed, that reality check when no one is watching, you vs. you. taking one step forward & ten steps back will test your patience, to be a better person is hard-work. when it comes to this, change is NOT constant.
- the thing about clouds is that it shows a certain degree of vulnerability. you realise how small you are in the grand scheme of things & also that the sun does not rise & set on your as*. sometimes, we all need to just calm down.
- i think it’s fair to say “morning” at the start of the day, because it’s yet to be decided if it’s going to be a “good” morning at 8am. but the clouds will make you think otherwise, they will show you something. i better have champagne in my house before hand.
- i need a minute to land, to get back on earth & place my feet on fresh soil. to feel the hair on my neck respond to the cold London breeze, to elaborate on answers & smile sweetly at customs not because i’m polite, but because i’m black.
- buildings and land begin to materialise. roads and bridges, waterways & stadiums. i’m closer to earth than the clouds, i can even see Canary Wharf from up here. as the wings of flight BA sways, i feel weightless. the pilot suspends our flight in air, waiting for traffic to clear, for a signal to land. this in itself, is a momentous step.
- we finally taxi on the runway & i reflect on where i am right now, where i was hours ago, back in the motherland. i already miss the capital city, oh the people, but dynamism is life. Abuja will wait because i will never ghost it. i can see yellow vests and orange cones, home is where the heart is.
