Hmmm so how do I put this, “I have never been a fan of Entrepreneurial talks back in college.”
You know, entrepreneurial classes and all where lecturers teach you and give you notes about how to start up a business, capital, investors and a whole load of other entrepreneurship stuff. To be precise, I loathed EDS lectures, the only reason I ever went was to mark the class attendance and well, if you had a tutor like mine, to write some of the tests which sadly never added any value to our final results. Except the official ones called “Mid-semester tests.” Let me just say it was all for the attendance. Oh and yeah it was a general class so you get to meet all your fam in various colleges of Business and Social Sciences, Agriculture etc ๐. You might be thinking how I scaled through the EDS exams – well it was never a problem. In my time, you just need to study the past questions and at the theory part of the exam, write as much note as you can (Lol my course mates can relate ๐). In this case, any type of content, my friend, is King ๐๐. Absolutely any type. We were quite much in my level, I’m talking 600 students or more taking the course soo.. you get the idea ๐๐
So what’s my point really? Why did I have to delve into all that in the first place? My point is that you don’t need a lecture before you can become an entrepreneur. Haha of course you need at least 1 – so my bad, you don’t need series of lectures on the stuff, No. Just a few good role models, training and Wikipedia (Google)!
Again, my point is that youths these days are innovative and to be frank, the future of the world (a little exaggeration never killed anyone ๐๐). What we need basically is a little more investment in us because generally the environment is not 100% conducive. I’m not saying that is the kind of environment needed to succeed because that will be too comfortable, in fact we have done much more without the environment being conducive. Just a little more effort in us would be nice.
Programs, foundations, should be able to support the Nigerian youth by giving them early start up capital (if there’s one thing I learnt in EDS, it is the demand on capital).
So many of us have potentials to be realized and invested in. Training should be done, skills should be taught.
Private sectors, pay attention – these youths need internships and externships to work. Put them on ground and help them live the reality of training. Enough of the theory already.
Now, I don’t claim to know much about Entrepreneurship matters though but the bit I do know which I believe is accurate, I always like to share and I’m always open to learn.
So this note goes without saying that there has been lots of talk on this topic and little action. Too little. Now I say, Brace yourselves, youths are taking over the nature of the country, give a little more support and we will change Nigeria. Hmm ironic isn’t it, we want the same thing as our President ๐
